Matt Silverman has served as President of the Tampa Bay Rays since 2005.  He oversees a front office that is known for its ingenuity, resourcefulness and continuity.  Beginning with their 2008 World Series berth, the Rays have posted six consecutive winning seasons and have made the playoffs four times during that stretch, a feat matched only by the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies.

In its most recent measurement, BloombergBusinessweek named the Rays the “smartest spenders” among the 122 MLB, NFL, NBA and NHL franchises. While the Rays have the second most wins in the major leagues over the past six seasons, ESPN has named the Rays one of the leaders in fan affordability in each of the past seven years among all of the major sports teams.

In the fall of 2007, Silverman directed a complete organizational rebranding, including a new name, colors, uniforms and icon, a bright yellow sunburst invoking the magnificence of life in the Sunshine State. Since then he has encouraged a creative approach to both the organization’s business and baseball operations and developed a sustainable business model which has become the standard for small market franchises.

Silverman is board chairman of “Starting Right, Now” which aids local homeless families and adolescents and earlier this year was named the first Chairman of the Board of the Positive Coaching Alliance-Tampa Bay, a national non-profit providing youth and high school athletes a positive, character-building youth sports experience.   He also serves on the Board of Governors for Tampa Bay Partnership and is a member of the Florida Council of 100.

Prior to joining the Rays, Matt worked closely with Principal Owner Stuart Sternberg at Goldman Sachs and orchestrated Sternberg’s purchase of controlling interest in the franchise.   A Texas native and graduate of Harvard University, Matt moved to Tampa in 2004.  He and his wife Andrea were married in 2012 and reside in St. Petersburg with their daughter Alexa Michelle.
