Amenazas locales a los recursos

Deforestation, development, droughts, flooding, soil exhaustion farming patterns, community and political conflicts

Riesgos climáticos

>Flooding as a result of irregular weather patterns >Drought due to climate change >Famine due to poor crop yields >Political instability due to conflicts of resources >Poverty due to lack of resource generating activities like fishing and crop farming >Impoverished health due to inadequate nutritional value >Insecurity due to massive rural urban migration in search of jobs to provide daily bread

Nivel de sensibilidad

Reduced crop yield to unsustainable levels Reduced animal products and animal production Conflicts within communities due to limited resources and effects of communal resources.

Nivel de capacidad adaptativa

>By mental and culture change through knowledge empowerment of climate change adaptive farming and farming technologies >By provision of training and training materials for climate change adaptive farming and farming technologies.
Solution

Organizing workshops and forming small working groups which will enable the communities have first hand information on the climate change adaptive farming technologies. Education through social media on social media climate change adaptive farming technology and statistics on food production Organizing field days where we can be having regular visits to farmers homes to enlighten and educate them on their farming practices. Organizing community barazas through the village elders to educate community members,

What were/are the challenges your community faced in implementing this solution?

Community attitude- can be overcome by personal interaction and demonstrations to the locals on the direct benefits of this climate change adaptive farming practices. Insecurity- by involving local community leaders Language barrier- by identifying responsible members of the community and having a discipleship programme for training the rest. Illiteracy- use of simple and easily comprehensive climate change adaptive farming practices.

Action

Through social media sensitization of young farmers on climate adaptive farming and farming technologies. This involves training farmers on alternative farming crops which mitigate dangers associated with climate change. This has been effected by local community support organizations which among them include YVE Kenya. This is usually conducted for months before and after planting periods. Also during Agricultural exhibitions and trainings.

Not Applicable

How has your solution increased the capacity of the ecosystem to adapt to potential climate changes?

Transitioning from habitual farming tools and technologies to climate adaptive farming tools and tools which will improve both crop yield and in effect ensure sustainable development hence mitigating climate change.

By eradication of poverty through sustainable income generation capacities and increase in food security and mitigation of climate change.

By shifting from their habitual farming practices, to climate change adaptive farming the community is able to improve their livelihoods by increasing crop yields, maximizing on income generating methodologies.

Increased local knowledge on climate adaptive farming technologies and tools. Also, a more enlightened generation in raised which can prolong this culture. Develop strong and active social networks within the community through internet and information materials eg sharing success stories.

Scale

It can be replicable anywhere in Africa where country s depend on specific regions as the bread basket. W e target the farmers, train and equip them with climate change adaptive farming tools and technologies.
