Context Analysis
Because I am a PhD Biologist & work with Conservation biology, I understand that if we really want to fight against climate change & biodiversity loss, we need to approach people of this science. Therefore, my main objective is to provide information about this topic & get people involved with change, consumption, cities routine and their pressure in natural habitats and resources. To achieve it, I create an environmental awareness action to approach people of cities of these topics. This action calls “Nós + Árvores”. We do some actions to get people involved, such as promoting planting trees days (especially of Cerrado, one of the most threaten biomes of the world, where I living), workshop of seed with children and campaign to reduce resources consumption. We also stimulate people to practice urban agriculture, based in Sintropic agriculture to improve land use in the cities. Thus, our challenge is to create a critical conscious about relationship of human & Earth.
Describe the technical solution you wanted the target audience to adopt
To achieve our objective, we invite people to refuse disposable items, such as plastic bags, utensils, plastic packing through environmental campaign. During others action, such as planting trees, we call attention about how cities pressure natural habitats leading to impact such as climate change and how we can promote changes in the way we use urban spaces. We also encourage people to plant in our home, starting urban agriculture, in a sustainable way, applying agroecological principles. We also talk about this topic and others such as sustainable fashion, composting and sustainable routine. In restaurants or establishments, we also request they change disposable items by reusable.
Type of intervention
Describe your behavioral intervention
The main behaviors we want to change is the critical thinking. We understand that we cannot provide all answers. Thus, we start to some general examples and bring the thinking about the story off stuff. It means, where the resources come from and where it goes when get to a trash. In this way, they can achieve better choice for all possible choices of your life. The best way we ensured consumer adoption is the feedback through our social networks that have been growing in a positive way.
As needed, please explain the type of intervention in more detail

Describe your implementation
The main actions we do:
Campaigns on internet about relationship of consumption and conservation through videos and photos.
Educational actions to spread information about biodiversity loss, climate change and human activities as principal factor
Education action with children, introducing topic about nature and human, conservation resources, biodiversity and Cerrado biome.
Community planting trees in public areas, calling attention to necessity of green areas to mitigate impact of climate change
Implantation of agroforestry systems in urban residences
The best way we ensured consumer adoption is the feedback through our social networks that have been growing in a positive way.
The key success is to get people involved creating a sense of belonging. When people participate, they feel as part and get motivated to take care and act together with us. In case of planting trees, we monitor trees over time, but community always get involved and helps us with maintenance of trees.
Our major obstacle is about the urban areas management by government and laws that do not encourage citizens do applying better land use, such as waterproofing of soil.
External connections
We have some partners:
MAIS – Movement of inclusion in Syntropical Agroforestry. They promote and help us to implement urban agroforestry systems
Profloresta – Seedling Nursery of the Federal University of Goiás. They provide us seedling that we use in our actions
CB-Lab –Conservation Biogeography Lab (PhD. Rafael Loyola). They promote and provide biodiversity information
Café do Mundo (coffee shop) – They help us to spread conscious consumption.
Our effort connected with other sector, especially through promotion of conscious consumption and local services, minimizing pollution from vehicles, and pressure market to innovate and create sustainable products. We also promote pressure to government review laws to encourage people to better land use, do not waterproof the soil and implement more green areas in the cities.
Who adopted the desired behaviors and to what degree?
Some restaurants changed disposable utensils to reusable. Also, other offer discount when customer recuse disposable utensils, such as straws. People also write us to told about their new behavior.
How did you impact natural resource use and greenhouse gas emissions?
Despite we cannot measure, we promote carbon fixation through our planting activities and conscious consumption. We also promote decrease of use of natural resource through our campaign.
What were some of the resulting co-benefits?
N/A
Sustainability
Most part of our action is cheaper and do not depend of external resources, because is based in talk. To plant trees action, we depend of resource, but this action is not expensive.
Return on investment
To implement planting trees action, we spend around 100$ per action.
How could we successfully replicate this solution elsewhere?
To replicate this solution, is necessary invite citizens and get some meetings with governments. It is been done in other cities. Also, spread information about alternative stuffs to use in their routine.
