EXCESS CUTTING OF TREES AND KILLING THE WILD ANIMALS FOR THEIR FOOD

Perigos climáticos

During the last 60 years there has been a change in the attitude towards development,we have been trying to live a life that is demanding more materials, high consumption and use of resources.we have been indiscriminately cutting trees, killing animals and birds, removing sand from rivers, building dams and polluting water with sewage, polluting air with smoke from industries, burning biomass and waste and motor vehicles, the list is endless. The outcome are that mother earth is becoming warmer and unpredictable changes in climate are affecting the seasons.NATURE BODIES,the eco club has tried to address these issues in achanakmar-amarkantak biosphere reserve in Bilaspur.

Nível de sensibilidade

more than 40% forest area has lost due to human activity.

Nível de capacidade adaptativa

Innovative approach to sustainable lives and livelihood for that increased capacities, social benefits, reduction of migration, environmental benefits.
Solution

We are mainly focused on those area which are badly affected by the threats namely Shivatarai, Achanakmar, Chaparwa, Bindawal, Lamani, Ataria, Katami, Surhi, Keonchhi, Amadob, Belgahana, Kurdar, Mithunava goan, Tenganmara, Kenda, Belpath, Khodri, Joghisar, Khongsara, Peparkhuti. In these 20 villages which were badly affected, we selected 30 schools in that area. Initially, our core group visited each area and following data were created: ? 60% of bamboo trees are destructed by the villagers for making baskets. ? All the species of rats and squirrels are urging of extinct. ? They cut the forest and sell the products as fuel. ? They separate green leaves for making ?Donnas? (leaf bowls). ? Every week 3-4 wild animals are killed by tourist vehicles. ? Before starting of our project 2 tigers, 6 elephants and uncountable small wild animals were killed because of their migration from forest to villages, it is great loss of natural habitat. Our team decided to solve that problem. PROJECT ACTION PLAN As this project was result internal motivation of students and involvement of the villagers, it took 3 years to eliminate the problem, for getting the results we adopt the following action plan: ? We started our project in October 2011, we involved 20 villages which were badly affected and we move to 30 schools at those particular villages three days in a week (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). ? We make some local actors and train them who lead the campaign in that particular school and area. ? We prepare one wall painting in each school with the help of students ?Green Handprints? which indicate the message of biodiversity conservation of that particular community. ? ?Green Handprints? is an action toward sustainability the five fingers of the handprints represents five objectives of education for sustainable development. I. Knowledge II. Values III. Skills IV. Participations V. Awareness It aimed to improve the agriculture practices in place of deforestation. ? Educate them through different environmental songs made by the local community people themselves. ? We developed some self learning materials i.e. Cartoon Strips, which tells the stories of migration of wild animals from forest to village. Through which students move towards the approach of the solution. ? Village head, Forest guard, Ranger, School Principal, School students, Villagers were involved in our activities namely ?Tree of Hope? through which they developed the idea to solve the problem at their own village.

Results

Custos Ecológicos

Through this project we are able to create a ecological balance.

Benefício Ecológico

increased biodiversity.

Indicadores Econômicos usados para medir o benefício

After 3 year of continuous work the amazing result achieved they are: ? Due to constant protest of the students the number of vehicles passing through the area has reduced. ? Maximum villagers started to adopt agriculture for their livelihood. ? With the help of forest department, the students and village heads succeeded in creating a society which can create opportunity for their livelihood. ? The rate of deforestation has been drastically decreased. ? The migration of animals and their death in road accidents has also decreased.

Custo comunitário/social

We started this project to protect the forest & wildlife at Achanakmar Amarkantak Biosphere Reserve which is very near to our city. With our basic research we came to know that villagers cut the forest for their livelihood and hunt the wild animals for their food. And due to deforestation there is migration of wild animals toward the villages and city. Through our educational campaign ?Each One Teaches One? we are able to solve the problem with the involvement of students, villagers and forest department.

Benefício Social/Comunitário

This project is done by school students with community people there fore the methods create more awareness.

Indicadores comunitários/sociais usados para medir o benefício

local actors from the locallity measures the benefts.

Benefício económico

95,000 INR YEARLY PER VILLAGERS

Quais foram/são os desafios que sua comunidade enfrentou na implementação desta solução?

Initally villagers are not ready to adopt the solutions therefore we our main focus was school students. from grass root level we started our work and get success.

Action

Descreva o processo baseado na comunidade usado para desenvolver a solução, incluindo ferramentas e processos usados

Achanakmar Amarkantak Biosphere Reserve had been a rich source of Biodiversity but presently it is undergoing a great loss due to lack of awareness of the local community. They cut the forest for making Bamboo baskets, leaf cups, pattle and hunt rats, squirrels, deers and other wild animals for their food. Through our educational campaign ?Each One Teaches One? we are able to solve the problem with the involvement of students, villagers and forest department . it took 3 years to eliminate the problem.

Como sua solução aumentou a capacidade das comunidades locais de se adaptarem a possíveis mudanças climáticas?

THEY AGAIN START ADOPTING AGRICULTRE INPLACE OF CUTTING TREES AND KILLING ANIMALS.
