Describe the problem
The beach fish landing sites along the coast of Tanzania are highly polluted as a result of fish processing just on the ground hence threatening health of fish consumers. Environmental education on beach cleaning among fishers is vital which using some fish offal to feed mud crabs and add additional income to fishers.
Biodiversity Impact
This idea intends to minimize fishing effort to fishers involved in the project by having an alternative livelihood activity of mud crab culture in mangroves. This will reduce fishing pressure in the fishing ground hence creating sustainable fisheries. Beach cleaning promotes health of this coastal ecosystem. Mud crab culture will go hand in hand with mangrove replanting and conservation hence promoting health of this unique coastal ecosystem.
Solution
Fishing grounds are threatened by overfishing and use of unsustainable fishing gears. Reducing the frequency of fishers going out fishing through providing alternative livelihood activity with protect biodiversity in the fishing ground. The understanding of mangrove forest as potential area for mud crab culture that provide income to the fishers will accelerate conservation ethics hence protect mangrove associated biodiversity. // About 15 hectares adjacent mangrove ecosystem including beach fish landing sites.

Human Well Being and Livelihood Impact
Environmental education help in opening mind on using locally available resources as opportunity for creating human wellbeing. This solution assist fishers in getting rid of depending on one source of income as well as assurance of generating income even during extreme weather condition that limit going out for fishing. It is anticipated that 100 fishers to benefit from this project. // It is intended to use Beach Management Unit (BMU) regulation and involve both local communities local government.
