An Overview Of Our Solution
Solution title:
BUILDING COLLECTIVE TOILET SEWAGE SYSTEM AND PUBLIC TOILET PITS TOWARDS CLEANER AND HEALTHIER WATER ECOSYSTEM IN TANDALE WARD IN DAR ES SALAAM
Following the environmental issues and the effect of climate change to the people the project aims to build the collective toilet sewage systems directed to the universal toilet pits for easy waste management. This program will help to combat outbreaks of infectious diseases like cholera, typhoid, malaria, fungus, urinary tract infections (UTI) and so many others that have been reported season after season. These diseases erupt due to poor toilets sewage systems and presence of too many low quality toilet pits in the streets in Tanzania that are often affected by rain and floods and have led to unsecured toilet service and spread of contamination of bacteria and viruses to the water sources.

Análise de contexto
The project will be operated in Tandale ward in Dar es salaam. It is a place where the population is concentrated to small and medium businesses, there’s economic and social integration of people but in this ward there’s poor and old sewage systems that cannot endure during the rain seasons. A lot of wastes from toilet chambers are taken and moved by water on the surface and some enter the houses, shops and disturb the communication and transportation systems. The geographical setting of this area is not friendly to the sewage system leading to blockage of waste sewers and road culverts and therefore a universal toilet sewage system will help to manage toilets wastes collected in a single street toilet pit.

The project will use public sewage and public pits for toilet that will help to separate solid waste from water and make it easier to manage and recycling. The households will build their own washrooms and instructed to channel the waste water to the main public sewage system that moves towards the universal toilet pit constructed within the street or ward. This action helps to reduce unnecessary land excavation and save the soil for other productive use.
Descreva sua intervenção comportamental.

Descreva sua implementação
This project will be done in partnership with the government through the ministry of health and the ministry of construction in Tanzania and the local government of the respective area whereby a public toilet pit will be constructed. This solution plans to support the efforts of the government in order to make revolution on toilets and environment preservation systems, by designing better toilet sewage systems that collect waste water from homes and towns to one underground public pit that has capacity to separate solid wastes and water by allowing waste water to disappear in the soil. This will help to reduce concentration of poor toilets in towns, in the markets and slum areas and also keeping the land for other productive activities. Finally, we will be able to avoid spreading of contaminations to water and make toilet service accessible to everyone.
Projects activities:
Requesting project permit from the government
Researching to identify areas that have poor toilet sewage systems.
Campaigning and requesting community engagement to the project through medias.
Providing training and seminars to the technicians on how to construct better sewage systems.
Building collective toilet sewage systems and public toilet pits.
Expected obstacles and how to overcome them;
Lack of enough open spaces in the towns and cities. We will insist the government to omit unnecessary buildings in order to allocate public toilet pits.
Delayed contributions from the inhabitants. The monthly contributions to the public toilet sewage system will be affordable and other stakeholders will be requested to support. For example the local government, NGOs and companies.
Key success factor:
This project aims at implementing the national development policy and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) No. 3 that states “Good health and well-being” and No.6 that states “Clean water and sanitation”, therefore we hope to gain a great support from stakeholders.

The project estimates $450,000 for implementation in Tandale Street. However the cost will vary depending on the nature of geographical location of other places.
Como poderíamos replicar com sucesso essa solução em outro lugar?
This project is more needed in the developing countries whereby toilets sewage systems are well structured. We can repeat the same mistake if we do not plan and transform the way we think. Government use a lot of money on remedial actions that could be avoided by installing proper town sewage systems that are universal an accessible to every household. Since the government builds the public dumps for disposing solid wastes, can also invest in constructing possible public toilet pits to ease waste water management and meet the sustainable development goals get cleaner and healthier water ecosystem. Private toilet pits have proved failure due to high cost of maintenance per household and are of low quality to endure bad weather such heavy rain and floods.
