An Overview Of Our Solution
Two years ago, at age 12, I was studying environmental issues up and down the coast of Oregon and California and learned about the very serious issue of climate change and plastic pollution. It scared me so much that I shut down emotionally and couldn't focus on it anymore. My mom saw how upset I was becoming and urged me to try to find solutions. I decided to make a series of documentaries that would educate and empower kids (and adults!) to take action. The series is called KIDS CAN SAVE THE PLANET and it has been hugely successful.

Context Analysis
My documentary series KIDS CAN SAVE THE PLANET educates and empowers kids and adults to make changes in their daily lives. The first film in the series PLASTIC IS FOREVER has been in 30 film festivals and environmental summits around the world so far, winning 6 awards and translated into Spanish and Italian. After the first film, I decided to do a film on climate change called TIPPING POINT and part of the research was to attend the climate Reality Leadership Program in Seattle in summer 2017. I was able to interview Ken Berlin for the film, as well as many scientists and activists. That film came out in winter 2017 and premiered at the Woods Hole Research Center in Cape Cod. It has won 2 awards so far and has been in 6 festivals and environmental summits. The third film brings everything together for the significant behavior changes and solutions to it all. It's called EVERYTHING CONNECTS and is really about changing how we all treat and interact with our planet and each other.
Describe the technical solution you wanted the target audience to adopt
Ditching fossil fuels and switching to renewable energy.
Type of intervention
Describe your behavioral intervention
Behavior changes include ditching single use plastics (made of oil) and use reusable products. Perform a trash and a recycling audit to understand what you are using, throwing into a landfill, and recycling. Go towards a zero waste and sustainable lifestyle. Write to your local, state and federal representatives to urge them to implement legislation that promotes sustainability. Speak out wherever and whenever you can about these issues. Our collective future depends on it.
As needed, please explain the type of intervention in more detail
By educating kids right from the beginning, we will soon have a huge, educated population that will be able to think, vote and act for the betterment of society. My film series include emotional appeals, social incentives and choice architecture in a concise and effective way. Film is a very powerful way to hit on all of these interventions.
