An Overview Of Our Solution

We train farmers to use Effective Micro-organism technology to control depletion of soil and crop health and increase farm yield to benefit Farmers, Human health & Nature. Excessive use of chemicals causes soil fertility depletion and increase deficiencies of certain micro-nutrients result in Nutrients Pollution. This threatens human health and environment. Weak and diseased soil grow low nutrient crop with traces of harmful Pesticide when consumed by people poses hazardous effect on their health. We believe that safe and nutritious food is right of every human and it should be affordable and accessible for all. Other issue is agonized condition of farmers.Overall the use of EM is an economical way to promote a sustainable, resource-recycling agriculture.

Solution

Describe your solution

EM (Effective-Micro-organism) is a liquid solution which contains beneficial organism from three main genera photosynthetic bacteria, lactic acid bacteria ,Trico-derma and yeast. We train our farmers in Japanese Bokashi method to prepare compost and pest repellant with EM solution. Overall the use of EM is an economical way to promote a sustainable, resource-recycling agriculture. We emphasize to provide extra opportunity to our farmers to earn some financial premium by selling self prepared EM Compost and Pest Repellant. We assist our farmers to form co-operative societies and set their own distribution channel. The EM farmer producer organization must be encouraged to get accredited and Organic certificated. Our FPO will produce organic and we link our FPO to Market for attaining extra margin of profit from direct farm to fork services.Effective microorganism is the one of the best option is anti-oxidation effect in micro organism directly on soil and indirectly on the plant. The process of anti-oxidation increases humus content of the soil and capable of sustaining food production. Effective microorganism not only increases the microbes in environment but also act as catalyst with synergistic effect to promote all useful microbes of environment. the micro organism secrete protein ,organic acid and antioxidants in presence of organic matter and convert them into energies thus the soil micro flora and fauna change from a disease including soil to zymogene soil.
Implementation

Describe your implementation

We have developed our training module based on our experience .We first select few farms (0.5 to I acres each farmers) for pilot where we can show our farmers that whatever we educate them is all happening at their farms because our farmers only trust what they see and physically experience it. Our general awareness and EM technology introductory session are open to all. Later we select batch of interested farmers especially small and marginal. EM (Effective-Micro-organism) is a liquid solution which contains beneficial organism from three main genera photosynthetic bacteria, lactic acid bacteria and yeast. We train our farmers in Japanese Bokashi method to prepare effective enriched compost and pest repellant with EM solution and various other application of EM technology in during entire crop cycle. We provide intensive training to our farmers via conducting workshop and interactive session with other agricultural expert as scientist from Agriculture University and other agro-based Institution. We conduct around 8workshop and monitoring session on their farms in any one crop cycle. We impart knowledge free of cost to our registered farmers. No major setup is required to get started as we need drums to store and treat EM solution. All other raw materials are agricultural waste, cow dung ,cow urine and EM solution enriched with gypsum ,bonemeal Bokashi etc for preparation of EM-compost and leaves and fruits of various plant which very easily available locally for preparation of Pest repellant. Soil starts adapting to EM methods from very first crop season to maximum of 2nd crop season.

Results

What is the environmental or ecological challenge you are targeting with your solution?

We train farmers to use EM Technology to control depletion of soil and crop health and increase farm yield to benefit Farmers, Human health & Nature. Excessive use of chemicals causes soil fertility depletion and increase deficiencies of certain micro-nutrients result in Nutrition Pollution. This threatens human health and environment. Weak and diseased soil grow low nutrient crop with traces of harmful Pesticide when consumed by people Poses hazardous effect on their health. We belief in safe and nutritious food is fundamental right of every human and it should be affordable and accessible for all. Other is agonized condition of farmers.

Describe the context in which you are operating

EM method is cheap and it cut down cost of farming to 30%-50% in comparison to conventional method. Therefore it is affordable for Poor farmers. EM method pays social and financial premium to farmer’s community. We offer free training, assistance and EM to farmers below poverty line in-order to fight against poverty. Our farms have improved of chemical fertilizer affect, less soil-borne pathogens, solubilization of insoluble soil nutrients sources,Production polysaccharides and overall rich microflora to improve soil aggregation,Fixation of atmospheric nitrogen. We encourage farmers to form Producers organization produce organic food and get their farms certified. Our farm to fork retail services will be first of its kind in country. We emphasize to achieve not only food production but also to protect the environment, resources and human health while being economically successful.
(1) Our Farmers will benefit from cash savings (30%-40%) as EM farming technology precludes the need to purchase of chemicals fertilizers and harmful pesticides.
(2) Extra incomes (10%-25%) gained by selling the surplus farm produce and self prepared EM Compost and Pest Repellant.
(3) Premium prices for certified organic produce and added value to organic products through processing activities.
(4) EM farms have more availability of plant nutrients and improved soil health which aids in sustain ing farms for ages.

How did you impact natural resource use and greenhouse gas emissions?

Our farmers don't have to buy pesticides and fertilizers anymore. Our Farmers will benefit from cash savings (30%-60%) as EM farming technology precludes the need to purchase of chemicals fertilizers and harmful pesticides. Extra incomes (30%-300%) gained by selling the surplus organic certified produce and self prepared EM Compost and Pest Repellant. Premium prices for certified organic produce and added value to organic products through processing activities. EM farms have more availability of plant nutrients and improved soil health which aids in sustaining farms for ages. Food produced is enriched with nutrients and is safe for consumption. It does not contain any harmful toxic content. Therefore it is safe for human health and controls nutrition Pollution & malnutrition.

Social/Community

Financial and social premium for farmers community.Extra incomes (10%-25%) gained by selling the surplus farm produce and self prepared EM Compost and Pest Repellant Our Farmers will benefit from cash savings (30%-40%) as EM farming technology precludes the need to purchase of chemicals fertilizers and harmful pesticides

Water

EM method save water less irrigation required.EM technology is also very useful in controlling water pollution .This technology can be used where we have limited source of water.

Food Security/Nutrition

According to experts EM technology have potential to feed entire world population and cope with need of increasing demand with limited farming land.Enhance nutritional value of food and farm yield.Food produced is enriched with nutrients and is safe for consumption. It does not contain any harmful toxic content .Therefore it is good for human health and controls nutrition Pollution & malnutrition

Economic/Sustainable Development

Assist our farmers in Organic certification and link them to organic market to gain fair and premium prices. We seek to set up our own Processing unit for sustainable growth & reduce exorbitant prices in Organic Food industry.Provide affordable Organic food by reducing exorbitant prices of Organic food Industry Financial and Social Premium for Farmer’s Community by Setting up processing Unit.and extra opportunity to our farmers to earn financial premium by selling self prepared EM products.

Climate

To attain ecological balance through the design of farming systems, establishment of habitats and maintenance of biodiversity check green house effect as no synthetic fertiliser required.Synthetic fertilizers can eat up the soil nutrients, creating a micro-nutrient deficiency in the soil. Such imbalance plays havoc with the nutrients balance in the soil and food produced

Sustainability

Major challenge was financial constraint for which were seeking grants and luckily we won couple of grant as award this keep us going on desired pace but for longer run we need a business plan as we developed a revenue generating model to generate revenue from taking 40% share from difference of premium rate and MSP of any specific crop. For eg wheat if MSP is 1600 per quintals and our farmers sell it on 1800 per quintals then our share will 80 rupees quintals and farmers have no problem in sharing it with us. Other is via 10% sale of EM technology products but still with fewer number of farmers we cannot have a self sustainable business model.

Return on investment

Assist our farmers in Organic certification and link them to organic market to gain fair and premium prices. We seek to set up our own Processing unit (wheat flour mill) for sustainable growth & reduce exorbitant prices in Organic Food industry.

Replication and Scale

How could we successfully replicate this solution elsewhere?

it can be repicated anywhere with training of farmers. We want to provide A-Z solution to worries of our farmers and encourage every possible farmer in our country to go organic via EM way .we want to expand our Program to every inches of our country we want to develop our own brand and have our value added products based on agro-climatic condition and need of local population and cultivation trend of that specific region
