Farming for Biodiversity

PANGEA SYSTEMS: Biodumbrava farm

An Overview Of Our Solution

PANGAEA SYSTEM reflects the ideal of unified agriculture. I believe for this century we need to think towards agriculture as an integrated system between: the need of nutrition (provided by organic ways) the need of quantity (provided by a semi autonomous self improving production) a need of nature respect (provided by a permaculture approach) a need of efficiency (aided by a complementary certification for emissions) and finally a need of unity (provided by the creation of one community). I refuse to believe that in the future, as oil reserve deplete , the paradigm 2% of the population produce 90% of the food (we consider 10%wild livestock mostly oceanic) will remain in place. Hydroponics and greenhouses are not universal solutions. I believe that easy access to healthy food should be a right. https://sites.google.com/site/agropermaculturalecture

Solution

Describe your solution

My project is build to be a multi-solution approach to the problems that concern energy consumption regarded as an efficiency factor that underlines the progress of a farming activity. With other words if we have to build a new practice type around a new mind frame to save agriculture from the dependence of oil we would need the use of the described technologies: use of solar panels for electricity heating, use of vertical composting to save space, use of other smart solutions to reduce the CO2 fingerprint of the farm (as part of a certification process) use of selective garbage collection procedures. My project mainframe is focused on several directions: 1 Finding a way to promote and develop a certification towards a Co2 reduction The so called Energo-Certification 2 Developing new horticulture practices: improving irrigation water, creating a plant specific mulch system, improving composting adding extra value to the process by studying post process methods. 3 I want to create a book and a community towered a concept called the agropermaculture concept. I would like to form the firs community in the world that is exclusively focused on CO2 reduction as an extension of sustainability trend. Here is my work: https://sites.google.com/site/agropermaculturalecture
Implementation

Describe your implementation

My Project will be stretch up to december2017 and has the following goals. 1. Ending project (1,2,3,4,5) with a rapport. 2. Creating a good quality of concept and check how people interact. 3. Creating a plan to grow the agropermaculture community through active involvement plus investment in a Tutorial Channel. • Specific activities and/or specifically what your solution does to address the identified problems above in the Context Analysis section a. Creating, involving and promoting agriculture practices in a workshop environment under the umbrella of a community. b. Rolling on with the 5 projects and finalizing a book on agropermacuture. All 5 projects will be functional and are considered premiers in their respects. c. Creating a hub (facebook group with recorded public meetings) where we can debate ideas for the Energo-Liberty concept. d. Writing a final rapport • How you ensured your solution was adopted and promoted change in human activities This question is hard because all my ideas are not proven concepts. I have to prove that my solutions are technically better and that we need to do efforts to reduce the CO2 consumption. • Enabling conditions I will have a `to do list` called Work-schedule Agenda on my site. • Key success factors 1. I will work on schedule 2. I will be realistic about the resources & support that I have in order to finish. In case of health issue I will delegate someone with the expense of some minor delays. • Any obstacles and how you overcame them Unexpected management problems at my farm will result in delays. Technical unexpected failures that will cost minor time and money.

External connections

There are 3 communities that are interested in these technologies. - The permaculture Community. New practices will create new opportunities for new results. - The Agro-touristic Community. Dedicated programs will help with rebranding and improving activates over food services after we help the pensions with their local garden. - The research community. My hope is that I will draw attention over the idea of a Complementary Certification process for the Co2 Fingerprint. I hope I will work with the Research community and European Agencies over the concept & implementation of such a system. -The organic horticulture associations will benefit if they chose to fund fruits of my research.
Results

What is the environmental or ecological challenge you are targeting with your solution?

Multiple problems: 1Radically better weed management 2. Unified Data centralization resulting in higher efficiency 3.Co2 Emission Control 4. Improved methods that are inspired by the permaculture movement, 5 improved phitoterapeutic treatments. etc

Describe the context in which you are operating

I am a small organic horticulture farmer. My purpose is to draw attention towards the fact that today’s organic practice is very depended on fossil fuel, contrary to public opinion.
I have done organic horticulture for more than 6 years and I believe there is a better way of organizing a farm and that way has to do with the prospect of creating a new type of practical methodology one that is focused on reducing the Co2 fingerprint of the farm. And in order to do that you need to combine the permaculture with organic agriculture and also need to invest in sustainable energy and be certified for that effort.

How did you impact natural resource use and greenhouse gas emissions?

My project will not impact directly the diversity and local environment. My project is the type of project that will be used for the foundation of future sustainable practices and methodologies. Quite frankly this project is focused on creating the methods and means to build a truly renewable alternative to modern agriculture. If we do not focus on reducing the CO2 fingerprint we will fail to have a sustainable agriculture and in the event of a future oil crisis we will not have means to sustain the world population. My hope is that my project will eventually lead to the creation of new jobs in the following arena : 1 Certification firms. 2 Maintenance work for Solar Park. 3 Factory workers for the casting of Disk-pots and other parts and systems required for the use of this new methodologies. 4 Probably we will have people working for the franchising of the agropermaculture methods.

Social/Community

According to my project the greatest gain will be the following: - Raising awareness over the emission problem. - Creating a mind frame that is focused on dependence for renewable energy. - Creating new opportunities for the pensions to produce and serve sustainable natural food. - Creating new technologies that will improve quality standards for inputs. This will be reflected as an efficiency factor.

Water

According to the waterspring project one of the biggest problems in horticulture will be addressed by serving enhanced irrigation water. I want to bring the quality of subsurface water to the quality of rain water with the help of a special installation that will enrich the water in atmospheric oxygen and nitrogen. This installation will also soften and passive heat our mass of water before irrigation.

Food Security/Nutrition

All the technologies that are developed in this project will be used on farms that buy a symbolic priced franchise. To be part of the agropermaculture family you will respect the good practices agreed in a convention. The franchise is a system of conventions that is respected by everyone. In a franchise people tend to be a lot more sensitive to problems thus the franchise for me represents the future type of entrepreneurial family. In a franchise safety and quality comes first.

Economic/Sustainable Development

Project -1-Will provide better water for irrigation. Project -2-Will provide better compost and a solution to reactivate agriculture on salty or polluted soils. Project -3- Will provide a case studies for combating specific disease on plants with the `vaccination method`. Project -4- The ceramic mulch incubators will provide a solution to stop or human and mechanical hoeing. Project -5- Is a program that will empower the agro-touristic sector to produce nutritious food.

Climate

The Energo-Liberty certification is our solution for sustainable economic development. If we believe in this idea and start investing intellectual resources and then capital, we could turn it into a real cure for our dependence on oil. If we want a chance to get out from the `sinking boat` without a resource driven war or a social crisis we need a transition vehicle. One way to care for the climate is to invest in renewable alternatives and a certification helps as is a catalyst of change.

Sustainability

My work is a proof of concept. From the point of view of economic sustainability probably is best to regard this work as a future need.
In today`s economy people do not love prototypes or experimental work, they want hard fact + proven concepts. Sorry to disappoint. The reality is that all the agriculture activities are heavy dependent on fossil fuel. From the energy spent for the farm and then to distribution and commercialization, everything is processed and reprocessed oil.
My entire concept is: modular, simple, energy efficient and lasts long. I aim to reevaluate agriculture methods by taking into account the farm`s CO2 emissions fingerprint as a factor that needs to be reduced.

Return on investment

The research for this project can be done with relative low investment. For general consent we have the following steps. 1. Prototyping -This is the stage that we are at. 2. Pilot installation – I dream of making a theme park in partnership with a University. This will be the next step requiring the crowd funding. 3. I intend to create the largest community in the world for experts and non experts and focused on CO2 reduction policy and solutions that have direct impact for organic agriculture and permaculture. 4. A franchise system will be desirable after the conceptual work is done and that will produce revenue with technologies that have low overall CO2 emissions. As it can be seen this contest is the first step in a long journey.
Replication and Scale

How could we successfully replicate this solution elsewhere?

Given that these solutions have not been implemented before it is hard to give estimates. All technical solutions can be replicated elsewhere. The problem is the Certification Concept since I need consultancy in the matter of good implementation. My big expectation is that this contest will offer me a boost of confidence and money to create a research park that will focus on 2 MAIN PROJECTS. 1- Experimenting with methodologies that will stand under a ‘franchise system’. 2- Experimenting with a “lobby work order”* in order to find solution for creating a Co2 complementary certification. *- concept dissemination, principals book, legislation model alfa 1,2,3… , pre-agreements contracts, Vlog work, and so on .
