It began to feed chickens in 2007 in qinbangjipin farm. In the chicken breeding area, the special fermentation bed is applied. In order to effectively invigorate the chicken health, add some essential nutrients and trace elements, the garden was developed, in which 100 different fruit trees and grass were planted. The stocking area and conservation area were set up to designedly feeding the chickens according to the different seasons. The farm passed the Chinese organic certification in 2011 and the EU organic certification in 2013. The chickens and eggs were passed the EU organic certification in 2015. The farm had also been authorized as the DEMETER farm in 2015.. Qinjun, the farm owner, visited Austria and Germany accompanying with Chinese minister of agriculture and attend the conference about Green development and Organic Cooperation in January, 2017.

Describe your solution

The research staffs had studied an innovative fermented mattress material, which was taken full advantage of rice husk, sawdust, straw and the functional microbial flora. The core of this technology lies in the functional microflora. With the functional microflora introduced in the fermented mattress material, the large scale of animal wastes can be quickly metabolized useful substances and energy, which can eliminate odor, inhibit pests and pathogens. Thus, the environment can be promoted, which can avoid the surround pollution and reduce the sick rate. In order to invigorate the chicken health effectively, add some essential nutrients and trace elements, the garden was developed, in which 100 different fruit trees and grass were planted. The stocking area and conservation area were set up to designedly feeding the chickens according to the different seasons and the plants growth. In the garden, many arbors, fruit trees and shrubs are planted. This garden is not only the natural shelter, but also can prevent the invasion of exotic animals to protect the chickens. In this garden, many different herbal plants were planted, which may have the functions to help chickens heat clear and detoxify.

At present, the normal breeding method of chicken can be described as intensive and high-density way. This way can easily pollute the environment, raise the disease, decrease the survival rate, and enhance the utilization of antibiotic. The difficulties contain the follow items: 1. The chicken breeding can easily destroy the plants because of the sharp claws and grabbing,. Solution: studying the appropriate quantity proportion of chickens and plants. The chicken breeding area can be divided into two parts, graze zone and vegetation restoration zone. 2. It takes a long time and much energy on the reasonable collocation of chickens and plants. Solution: the collocation and utilization of many varieties of plants. The deciduous trees can shade the chickens. The different kinds of trees can continually provide the nutrients and trace elements for the chickens. The selected herbal trees can help to promote the chicken immunity and disease resistance. 3. The chickens can produce a large amount of waste, which can cause pollution and damage to the soil and water. Solution: Many build reservoirs can be built with the multi-level filtering principle to collect and settle sewage. The plant and aquatic of different fertilizer needs are planted in the reservoir to purify the water, which can finally be used in the crop irrigation. 4. The chickens can be easily caused the digestive and respiratory diseases because of the chicken waste. Solution: The fermentation bed produced by the crushed straw with the functional microflora is used in the henhouse to decompose the animal waste and protect the environment. Through the ten-year practice and improvement, the qinbangjipin breeding solution can increase the survival rate to 93% for small chickens, 95% for young chickens and 85% for adult chickens. What is the environmental or ecological challenge you are targeting with your solution?

The qinbangjipin’s solution of poultry feeding can improve environmental quality for the large scale breeding and the used water can be purified and reused in irrigation. And the solution can effectively prevent a large number of animal manure on the soil acidification. The animal wastes can be applied in the fields as the organic fertilizer after being treated by qinbangjipin’s fermentation bed. This ecological breeding way can enhance the plant diversity, maintain the biodiversity in the farm and promote the quantity of insects and birds.

Describe the context in which you are operating

This solution can be used to feed the poultry and livestock, such as the pigs. There are more than 300 people, who exclusively visit the farm for the solution study. Practice tells us that the solution can give a hand to raise the animals with an organic way. And it can promote the animal’s living environment and decrease the sick rate of chicken. Nowadays, the survival ratio can be reached to 93% for small chickens, 95% for the young chickens and 90% for mature chickens. The quality of chickens and eggs in the farm can achieve the organic certification standards of China and EU. The trace element and nutrients contents of eggs produced in the farm are higher than them in the normal chickens. The protein, fat, iron, and zinc contents are 13.3%, 4.2%, 20.8mg/kg and 14.2mg/kg, respectively. Meanwhile, the animal’s wastes, treated by the qinbangjipin’s fermentation bed, can be applied in the soil as the organic fertilizer. Not only that, the solution can also decrease the security risk.

How did you impact natural resource use and greenhouse gas emissions?

The varieties of fruit trees and herbal medicine trees are both reach to 20, which attract different insects. The different kinds of insects can provide the animal protein and fine ecological environment to chickens. The water in farm is treated with multistage precipitation method. Concretely, 4 impounding reservoirs are built to collect the rain and used water from scouring the breeding area through the drainage ditches. The used water collection can decrease the soil pollution from the animal wastes and the disease transmission. In the pools, many different kinds of fertilizer-require hydrophytes and aquatic are introduced to purified water, which can finally be used in the irrigation. The poultry manures are naturally fermented for one year on the inside fermentation bed studied by qinbangjipin farm. After fermentation, the animal waster can be used as the fine organic fertilizer, which can be applied in the soil. The recycle way decreases the economic investment and save the cost.
