Solution

Describe your solution

This project seeks to ensure sustainable harvesting for food security while restoring biodiversity to degraded agricultural land. The populations will be able to initiate solutions based on nature: polinization, restoration of hedges to combat erosion, aquaculture, green manure production
Implementation

Describe your implementation

Specific activities are the identification and networking of actors, the creation of a pilot farm and the reinforcement of the capacities of the targets: vunable layers (young people and women). The involvement of the regional agency and local authorities is the specific advantage of this solution, which is based on the social mobilization of the leaders in order to provoke the involvement of young people and women in the creation of green self-employment. Citizen education and support for the marketing of farm products are the key factors for success. The constraints of access to the financing for the acquisition of irrigation system will be palliated by the accompanying of the project. And the improvement of the living conditions of the beneficiaries will lead to the adhesion of the population to renovate their cultural practices

External connections

The main partners are the Education and Training Unit of the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development, the regional development agency of kaolack, the microfinance structures; These structures will be enrolled in a multi-stakeholder network or they will interact with civil society actors and local businesses
Results

What is the environmental or ecological challenge you are targeting with your solution?

The groundnut basin of Senegal is located in central Senegal. It was once an important agricultural territory for Senegal. For decades, extensive cultivation has resulted in land depletion, which has contributed heavily to the increase in poverty in the region, including the rural exodus and the immigration of young people, including young girls. This project seeks to introduce new agricultural techniques based on the irrigation of small family farms through the use of renewable energies. In addition, the project will work to set up a platform of local initiatives to boost local economic development by networking local actors. The objective is to accompany them to create value chains in the sectors that constitute their local wealth. It is a question of working to make the emergence of micro and small industries or companies that would help to fix young people in their territories to emerge through the strengthening of production capacities.

Describe the context in which you are operating

The action consists of creating a network of 200 sustainable development actors within an Agrobusinness Cluster for Fisheries and Innovations. Wealth creation aims at green growth through energy supplies for household lighting, irrigation of small family farms and modernization of handicrafts. The idea is to establish local and international solidarity for development through energy, with the involvement of local authorities in the appropriation of the COP21 agreements.

How did you impact natural resource use and greenhouse gas emissions?

In kaolack, fields are openfieds. With the project, we will introduce the bocages to fight against soil erosion. In addition, we will promote the aboricutures and the creation of village woods

Replication and Scale

How could we successfully replicate this solution elsewhere?

This action stems from the experience of the project SOLIDE Banlieue whose annual budget 30000 € but the experimentation has concerned the schools and college where we develop micro-gardening and the recycling of waste. The aim is to extend the experience gained in schools
