Through participatory implementation whereby the community members are involved from the start up to the end of the planned implementations. Before takeoff of any intervention the village leaders and other community members are made aware of the project interventions through meetings which are conducted to the villages in the project area. Also building capacities to beekeeping groups

Delay of disbursement from donors makes some interventions not be implemented as planned so necessitating carrying over,
Uncertain means of transport to reach the target area on time, however we do overcome this by sometimes requesting the cars from the local District authority and sometimes we do hire cars to the project area
External connections
Some key partners who helped in effecting the project implementations were :MJUMITA, TaFS(Tanzania Forest Fund).We are connected with others sectors such as Fisheries ,this is when conducting trainings of beekeeping normally issues of rivers /waters sources destruction including poisoning and destruction of forest resources are part and parcel of the trainings. Also We emphasize this taking into consideration that without water or destruction of water sources will have a detrimental effect to beekeeping so is forest destruction. We generally emphasize on environment conservation that bee keeping activities are being undertaken by taking into consideration of the Environmental Management Act of 2004.
Results
What is the environmental or ecological challenge you are targeting with your solution?
There is a continuous over exploitation of Natural resources due to low income which is caused by many factors amongst of which being results of low production from rain fed agricultural activities. However, there is no single recipe in curbing this uncontrolled exploitation of Natural resources, so adoption of modern bee keeping practices is one way of alleviating the situation by helping in improving the biodiversity and Natural resources status at the same time increasing communities’ income. Beekeeping practices will improve communities’ livelihood, so relieving the forest resources of pressure from illegal extraction and degradation.
Describe the context in which you are operating
We have been supporting the communities in income raising activities such as beekeeping by supplying 175 beehives to 5 villages in Chisano, Mgugwe ,Lufulu, Kidete and Mngeta respectively. Also, building their capacities (village leaders and Beekeeping groups) on modern bee keeping technologies and sustainable utilization and/or conservation of Natural resources. The technical part i.e. trainings have been conducted by the District Officials
How did you impact natural resource use and greenhouse gas emissions?
Biodiversity was improved through adopted beekeeping practices such as sitting of bees in the Forests (Apiaries) reduced prevalent uncontrolled fires in the apiaries; and in case of fire incidences the responsible villages were responsible in setting off fires. In so doing they will be improving their livelihoods and the status of the biodiversity in the forests (Apiaries).This is also effected by the presence of village bylaws on environmental conservation which explain penalties for wrongdoers (who set on fires).

Also more technical advices are available from the District Official who experts in Bee sector because the selected villages are in their areas of operations
Return on investment
Almost TShs 30,000,000.00 were spent in two projects (fund from MJUMITA -TShs 10,000,000 and TaFF- TShs 20,000,000).The results were significant because 6 Beekeeping groups each with 15 members were initially supported with 95 bee hives which have the capacities of producing honey 30kgs /hive /annual.

Replication and Scale
How could we successfully replicate this solution elsewhere?
This can be scaled up in places with similar ecological, economic challenges by supporting beekeeping groups with hives after training them on modern beekeeping practices and conducting awareness raising & sensitization meetings. Training community members will ensure sustainability as trained community members will train fellow community members and they will form associations to search for market for products. Previously the project worked in 5 villages but intends to scale up interventions to other villages bordering Nyanganje & Udzungwa Mtns National Parks whose challenges are similar. Key stakeholders are Village government leaders, community members (beekeeping groups) and District Council. Funding will be required for the following project activities: Impact Assessment of previous beekeeping activities($823),Strengthening beekeeping groups through training ($ 1,920.28),Procurement & distribution of hives & equipment($11,946), Monitoring & Evaluation of interventions ($100)
