An Overview Of Our Solution

The farm, MAGO & SONS NIG. LTD is situated along Federal Polytechnic Road, Ado-Ekiti. While the fish farm is located is located at Fagbohun at the back of Obasanjo Estate Ikere Road, Ado-Ekiti. The Fish farm has a total number of 10 Hectares with existing spring water of perennial water supply where small Dams can be constructed for cage Culture. The fish farm also has about 24 concrete ponds all functional that can contain about 48,000 able size cat Fish and a viable hatchery to supply the communities with Fingerlings and juvenile of about 3 million pieces in Eight-Ten (8-10) weeks. This will encourage small scale fish farmers in the communities thus providing job opportunities in the area. The fish farm is also at the point of establishing feed mill. The equipment and machineries have been paid for at Moore Plantation, Ibadan, and Oyo State.

Describe your solution

The Corporation has the following impacts on the life of people :-  Provision of portable water for household use.  It enhances and empower the skills of the employers. The Corporation in collaboration with various Organizations such as IITA, farm settlement research Centre, for supply of high yielding cassava stem and other crops. ABUAD, Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti NIOMR Lagos.  Avoid bush burning  Using of re-circulatory system The Corporation has adopted the following methods to bring farming in harmony with Natural Environment.  Avoid the use of Chemicals like herbicides for the weed control.  Use of biological methods to control weeds by planting cover crops. The alternative pest control practice that reduces toxic run off into local water source are  Total abstains from the use of Chemicals.  The use of Biological Control. The organic farming method that increases soil biodiversity are:-  The use of organic fertilizer only  Green development The innovative approaches are:-  Avoid the spray of chemicals for weed control  Establishment of grassing land for animals. The Corporation collaborating with various Institutions like Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, The Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti New Varieties in different farm Produces  High yield variety Provision of :  Provisions of Social amenities  Industrialization  The Ecosystem of the water will be protected  Avoid of Green House effect
Implementation

The Fish farm has a total number of 10 Hectares with existing spring water of perennial water supply where small Dams can be constructed for cage Culture. The fish farm also has about 24 concrete ponds all functional that can contain about 48,000 able size cat Fish and a viable hatchery to supply the communities with Fingerlings and juvenile of about 3 million pieces in Eight-Ten (8-10) weeks. This will encourage small scale fish farmers in the communities thus providing job opportunities in the area. The fish farm is also at the point of establishing feed mill. The equipments and machineries have been paid for at Moore Plantation, Ibadan, Oyo State. The feed mill equipment will soon be transported and installed for efficient feed mill processing for feed production. 2. In the area of Cassava production, the farm has an existing factory which is to be rehabilitated with new modern equipment. The factory will focus on the production of Garri, production of Tapioca Starch, Cassava chips and cassava flours while the waste will be harnessed to produce Animal Feeds

What is the environmental or ecological challenge you are targeting with your solution?

The hatchery building can produce a total number of 3 million fingerlings in 8-10 weeks The fish farm has a total no of 24 Concrete tanks all constructed near a perennial water source . The dam has a dimension of 3 hectares. Adequate funding  Labour and material resources  Supply of Juvenile Fish of early maturity The challenges on cassava production is that about 2,000 hectares of land has been prepared for the farmers by the Ekiti Government to facilitate the production of cassava farmers and three hundred farmers will be out sourced for the Cultivation The project will require the following  Complete tractors with accessories  The expected production is expected to be 15 tons per hectares.  A total of 25 people will be employed for both field and aquaculture services.  The population impacted is expected to be 8,000 people from the Communities.

Return on investment

The fish farm has cost the sum of N 15 Million (fifteen million Naira) grants from the Fed Government, while N 20 Million naira (Twenty million Naira) was ploughed back into the company to increase our production. And N 70 Million (Seventy Million naira ) has been used to set up the cassava factory while the sum N 50 Million naira (Fifteen Million Naira) loan is being sourced from the Bank of Industry to increase productivity with modern equipment. Also the Grants of $ 30,000 at your end will be used to boost the production capacity to impact positively on a large population in the Communities.
Replication and Scale

How could we successfully replicate this solution elsewhere?

It has the potential of being replicated in other communities due to viability, market demand, accessibility and the potency of the project. It has a potential of high profitability and easily sustainable. It has been be successfully done before because the fish farm is producing a large quantity of fingerlings and raising them to table size increase the protein intake of the commodities and the cassava factory is already processing cassava into chips, starch and Garri but needs modern equipment for optimum production. The sum of $ 100,000 which will be partly sourced by the stakeholders and the expected grants at your end. The addition needs on training is required in the areas of fish management and cassava processors are highly needed.
