An Overview Of Our Solution
Each year, all over the World 15-20 billion wooden pencils are made and the demand keeps increasing, which amount to over 100,000 trees that are cut. 2 billion pens are made every year which are used and thrown away. 50% of office waste is paper which ends up in landfills. Recycling used paper could save 50,000 trees per year. The need to protect the forest resources and ecological environment is eminent, Africa countries are doing nothing to effectively recycle waste which are polluting our environments. Papersmart Industries is manufacturing and converting waste paper materials sustainably into producing high quality biodegradable writing instruments (Pencils) and many more by using cutting edge Technology.
- Population Impacted: 7 000 000 000 people
- Continent: Africa
Context Analysis
Wooden Pencils manufacturers cut down trees carelessly. To the 20 billion wooden pencils, 2 billion pens are made every year which are used and thrown away. By Recycling will help locals as we bring in more employment and help us independent from importations. We are contributing significantly to the Economy of the country, educating kids to be environmental advocates, and addressing the set out issues in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Environmental Benefits: By using recycled papers, instead of them to block the drains we absorb them by producing unique products, we keep the environment clean, we save trees.
Recycling paper, reduces 40% of Air pollution, decreased water pollution by 74%
For every kilogram of recycled paper, 4 kilograms of CO2 is prevented in the atmosphere, (reducing carbon footprint)
Describe the technical solution you wanted the target audience to adopt
I call up on the world to use on daily basis ecologically friendly stationery Pens, Pencils from recycled papers. By so doing, we are raising Environmental Awareness and Climate Change issues through a dynamic approach including the eco-pencils, eco-pens ect… as communication, information and educational tools, thus protecting the planet through recycle, reuse, reduce

As needed, please explain the type of intervention in more detail
Papersmart Industries manufactures and distributes affordable and high quality recycled paper based writing instruments, as well as other recycled paper based and eco friendly products to all Namibians one product at time and to Africans as whole and contribute to the improvement of the living standards of all by providing jobs throughout the country, and contribute to the set objectives of Vision 2030, NDP4/NDP5, Growth @ Home, HARAMBEE Prosperity Plan, New Procurement Bill just to name few in Namibia
Describe your implementation
We are the first green company in Namibia to specialize in manufacturing of eco-friendly stationery Pens and Pencils from recycled papers. By so doing, we are raising Environmental Awareness and Climate Change issues through a dynamic approach including the eco-pencils, eco-pens ect… as communication, information and educational tools, thus protecting the planet through recycle, reuse, reduce…
External connections
With schools in Namibia holding more than 800,000 learners, our investment research climate saw a huge potential in production activities in writing instruments sectors to about 100% as there is no single Local Manufacturer in the sector.
Who adopted the desired behaviors and to what degree?
University of Namibia has initiated a program for academics to use only Eco stationary. We are seeing schools, communities, corporate using our eco friendly products. Companies, Institutions, Schools and NGO’s are part of our clients
How did you impact natural resource use and greenhouse gas emissions?
• Recycling – Promoting wise use of our precious natural resources
• Reuse - Promoting recycling of one product into another
• Reduce – reducing the waste stream – Less garbage in the Society. How do we prevent greenhouse gas emission?
Paper is an organic material, meaning that as it decomposes it releases gases like carbon dioxide and methane. Both these gasses contribute significantly to the green-house effect. By recycling paper we retain the carbon content in a solid form, thus impeding the eventual release of these gasses into the atmosphere
What were some of the resulting co-benefits?
SOCIO-ECONOMIC BENEFITS OF THE INDUSTRY IN NAMIBIA
1. Job creation: Recycling will help locals as we bring in more employment. Paper Pens and Pencil manufacturing is very direct and indirect labour intensive venture. We will employ 20 to 45 people inside the factory on permanents basis
2. Indirectly, we will work with Orphanage and homes including street boys and community groups who will recycle the papers and we collect from them and pay them which are sustainable source of income for them.
3. We are addressing positively the NDP5 objectives by potentially promoting manufacturing which is the only way to make us independent from importations.
4. We are contributing significantly to the Economy of the country.
Sustainability
Our Model of eco friendly products manufacturing is sustainable because products are:
High Quality and Low price
Environmentally Friendly
Low resource consumption
Raw Materials are readily available
Less garbage in the society
Employment Opportunities-We create Jobs therefore reducing poverty
Demand Supply Gap, creates a room for our business
Purchasing power of the people increased so they favour our Products.
Return on investment
The plant is a compact plant. The minimum setup cost which included Machines, operation and installation of renewable energy of 5 Megawatt is about U$ 1 000 000 only. Gross sales based on the production in 12 months is about $ 2800 000 at $ 0.50 per unit in the same period. According to the projected income statement, the project will start generating profit in the first year of operation. The project’s initial investment will be fully recovered within 18 months about 1 year and half.
