Local resources the community depends on, and for what purpose
Local threats to resources
Climate Hazards
Level of sensitivity
Level of adaptive capacity
Very high sensitivity level because it will damage the ecosystem and biodiversity as it tends to get economic value than the balance of the ecosystem
Ecological Costs
Ecological Benefit
Economic Indicators used to measure benefit
In community capacity building, training group increased product utilization livelihood thereby increasing economic output and is not affected in climatic conditions, and the next group will make fish farming cages / net to catch to address the shortage of fish. With the group was able to make change for the better and survive on climate change is happening so they can still get the economy regardless of climate change. But it is not just enough to adapt but how communities to reduce the impact of climate change by maintaining the activities of forest ecosystems and palm trees (as part of a group of mangrove).
Community/Social Cost
Community/Social Benefit
Community/Social Indicators used to measure benefit
Economic Cost
For this case does not exist except among areas where they keep their fishing area respectively in the sea, so that the other party is not allowed to catch in the area of ??rural areas in other districts and the settlement with deliberation
Economic Benefit
Community Forestry has formed a group that keeps the peat swamp ecosystem and the group of women who manage and maintain aquatic ecosystems results Nypa
Ecological Indicators used to measure benefit
The average number of people present in the community forest group meetings up to 30 people and a group of women as a support group there were 22 people present for the meeting. On average they are fishermen, cultivators and jelutung tappers.
What were/are the challenges your community faced in implementing this solution?
Costs for community meetings monthly average in two groups sampaik 3 million rupiah because of transportation costs, then to a local training about 1-2 million rupiah and study outside the region to 20 million (sugaring training and care of trees Nypa Nypa in Cilacap, Central Java)
Describe the community-based process used to develop the solution including tools and processes used
Dangers of climate change affecting the community in finding sources of economic necessity thus negatively affecting the behavior change that tended to destroy society, as more turn to the forest for hunting and open land with fuel and poison the fish in the river.
Climate hazard of concern
How does your solution reduce the exposure of and buffer/protect the ecosystem affected?
Community-based process that is used is a community mobilization and participatory to develop alternative income communities at the local level that they have done. Form that has been developed is a support group through the development of community forestry manufacturing and marketing of dried fish, fish crackers / shrimp, making nipah sugar, caring for nipah plants and plant jelutung trees by jelutung tappers. Activities undertaken all tailored to their livelihood, the solution just found a way to improve the quality of results and the capacity of the community. They also keep the palm trees and the ecosystem can sustain jelutung estuarine areas and peat area in order to keep the sea water does not enter water sources clean and maintained. In group decision making has always held a meeting and discussed with members of the companion as a partner in the development of solutions / group plan. Organizations supporting this group is Yayorin, OF UK, BKSDA Central Kalimantan, Clinton Foundation. Implementation of these activities sustainable expectations, and the current 1.5 years to support activities.
How has your solution increased the capacity of the ecosystem to adapt to potential climate changes?
Changing temperatures and weather patterns
How does your solution reduce the exposure of and buffer/protect the communities affected?
As already mentioned at the beginning that the group create an alternative income from regular resources they can from their village areas, one of which they utilize water taken nira nipah from fruit and processed into sugar, and the community will keep the palm ecosystem while keeping them protected from sea flooding , prolonged sea water intrusion and maintain clean water sources in the peat swamp forests of maintaining forest ecosystems and planted with native tree species that jelutung (Dyera sp) and other marsh plants.
How does your solution reduce the sensitivity of the communities affected?
Sensitivity of the community against the effects of climate change are the symptoms of the weather conditions become hot so most people are aware need to plant trees, reducing redundant activities (burn area). Then another effect of climate is the climate change also affects the rainy season so that farmers make their agricultural stress dry / flooded sehingg crop failure and are also frequently affected by pests due to burned forest pests so fled to the fields. To avoid this the following directives chaperone partners for not slash and burn farming again but settled pattern of mixed garden or yard polybags system. Then the fishermen who go to sea do not get caught because not through or sea is not optimal because of the wind and waves. Then they initiated for the fishermen to make fish farming in cages / net.
How has your solution increased the capacity of local communities to adapt to potential climate changes?
Our group will do the planting in degraded forest areas which are part peat carbon store that can not be separated in order to increase the concentration of carbon greenhouse gas that can contribute to climate change. Planting activities undertaken is to grow crops that support the economy and keep the peat swamp habitat while maintaining a clean water source in peat forests. While other activities are palm trees to maintain ecosystem function like ecosystems such as mangroves to withstand abrasion, seawater intrusion.
Can this solution be replicated elsewhere?
From the sale of sugar and salt fish and crackers in packs, they are able to provide additional results of family and helping her husband find additional results.
